Portinatx

Portinatx is a tourist centre with hotels, restaurants, bars, souvenir and beach shops. It has two beaches, S’Arenal Gros and S’Arenal Petit, a port, and fishing dock areas. It is undoubtedly a family area, quiet and with many natural spaces to spend the day.

The largest is S’Arenal Gros, which averages 120 meters in length and 50 meters in width. The sand is somewhat grainy, both on and off the sea. The sea is shallow at the edge of the beach; the waters are turquoise and are generally clear and translucent. It has all the necessary facilities to be appreciated by the tourists, lifeguard, showers, toilets, loungers, umbrellas, local grocery shops, pubs, restaurants and hotels around.

S’Arenal Petit is Portinatx’s tiny beach; it is 50 meters long and 40 meters wide, it is like a mini-copy of S’Arenal Gros, it has the same facilities and amenities, including a wheelchair ramp.

How to get there:

Portinatx can be reached by car or scooter from Ibiza town. By taxi, it is over 35 euros.

By bus, take the bus number 20 Eivissa-Sant Lorenç-Portinatx.

Driving, take the road E-10 to Santa Eulalia; nine kilometres after you will find a roadside at the left with the road signs Sant Lorenç, Sant Joan, Sant Antoni, take it. Immediately there is a roundabout; take the way at the right to Sant Joan. Continue towards Sant Joan, one kilometre before Sant Joan town is a roundabout, take the road to Portinatx. The way is well signposted until you reach it. Portinatx is a big area surrounded by hotels; you can park near the coast.

Did you know?

Portinatx got the name Portinatx des Rei, which means Portinatx of the King. In 1929 Alfonso XIII landed on this beach while on military maneuvers, he named it after himself.


What to see:

If you drive to the northeast of the island from Portinatx head towards Punta Moscarter where the beautiful Moscarter Lighthouse is located. It was designed by engineers Fernando Moscardó and Rafael Soler and built between 1975 and 1978. Standing on an incredible cliff, the lighthouse can also be admired from afar because of its unique appearance as it has a black on white helicoidal strip.

Walking around this area will give you a lot of peace as there is nothing but forests and the spectacular panoramic view of the sea and sky, you will be surrounded by blue and green, no doubt this is another face of Ibiza that only a few people know.

Hostel La Cigüeña

The hostel La Cigüeña is situated right on the beach of S’Arenal Petit and has a splendid restaurant accessible to the public. The menu is of all Mediterranean cuisine, the seafood, fish, Spanish rice, paella, olives, fresh salads and tapas are not to be skipped. The hostel and the restaurant are among the oldest in Ibiza, well known by locals. It has a large terrace in front of the sea where you can eat and enjoy the beautiful north coast.

Tips:

When you arrive at the Portinatx area, probably you can get a little lost. The road that enters from the highway has many hotels and restaurants, once you get to the beach, you will first find S’Arenal Petit beach, and if you continue the main road, you will find S’Arenal Gros beach. In the peak season, the beaches will be very crowded, but the fascinating thing about Portinatx is that there are many areas to discover if you continue the road you will reach the port which also has a beach area.
