Sometimes, travelling to the beach with the whole family most especially when you have kids can be a bit challenging. There are many things you need to take into consideration, above all the safety of your children. In a small fisher’s village of Es Pujols, near the Northeastern part of the island, Platja Es Pujols or Es Pujols beach is situated, “the beach that has it all”.
Its turquoise water is calm and not exceptionally deep by any means making it suitable for children of all ages. Its wooden walkways between the shore and the sand dunes makes it convenient to travel from one end to another.

Es Pujols is a beach that offers something for everyone. This beach has everything you need to have a perfect holiday. It is close to shops, restaurants, bars, hotels and almost all the attractions are based here. This 500 meters long white sandy beach gets really crowded most especially during the peak season, nonetheless, you can still find a great spot for sunbathing. As the number of activities here are extensive, you will not run out of things to do. Aside from swimming and snorkeling and even skinny dipping, you can also do fun kayaking, paddle boarding and playing with your kids building a sand castle.
Its Caribbean like water is calm like a natural pool, translucent and shallow. The beach is adjacent to a good array of beachfront cafe’s and restaurants that is separated by a walk way and promenade. Every night from 7pm to midnight, the local hippie night market on the promenade is filled with people shopping at the vibrant stalls. Beach beds and sun umbrellas can be rented for 10€ each.

How to get there:
Geo: 38°43’38.7″N / 1°27’14.8″E
La Savina port is 4.6 km from Es Pujols. It is only 8 minutes drive away by car. Head Southwest on Carrer Ponent toward Av. Mediterranea, after 18 meters turn left onto Av. Meditteranea then turn left onto Placa de les Illes Pitiuses /PM-802-2 after 400 meters. Continue for 4.1km then turn another left to reach your destination after after another 400 meters.
On the other hand, riding the bicycle or eco friendly scooters will take 15 minutes minimum depending on your pace and you can follow the same route or you can take Carrer de Llevant which is a little bit further at 5.5km.
Riding a taxi cost around 10-15 euros. Riding a bus however is cheaper at regular ticket price of €1.80 to €2.55 depending on the destination.You can take bus numbers L1 and L7 to get to Es Pujols. Bus no. L1 La Savina–Sant Francesc–Sant Ferran–Es Pujols–La Savina and Bus no. L7 La Savina–Platja Illetes–Es Pujols–Sant Ferran–Platja de Migjorn–Far de Sa Mola.
Did you know?
Es pujols is the main tourist center in Formentera. This runs across Estany Pudent Lake, a large natural reserve of great significance where bathing is prohibited. It used to be “Laguna de los Flamencos” due to the large presence of flamencos. The lake played a significant role in the salt extraction industry in the island and during the Spanish Civil War.
What to see:
You will see and you can explore the fishermen’s hut around Es Pujols. It is a wood made pier where fishermen station their boats when not in use.
You will also for sure stumble on the famous Formentera beach bus that is parked in front of Chezz Gerdi Restaurant. If you get a chance, snap a photo coz it is one of the most famous buses in Instagram.
What to do:
Platja Es Pujols can be very busy depending on the time of the year. If dealing with the crowd when at the beach is not your thing and you prefer to avoid it, you can do other things to not let the day slip by without getting to do something.
Hopping on to a bicycle is one of the activities that most tourist do when they come to Formentera since most of the roads are flat, so don’t worry about safety. It is a perfect way to travel from one beach to another until you find the beach that satisfies your liking.
Parties in Formentera are not as gigantic and crazy as the ones on Ibiza, in fact there are not many clubs in Ibiza’s little sister. However, there are a lot of pubs and bars you can go to have a chill out night alone or with friends.
And of course, this is something you would not want to miss. Visit the local hippie night market on the promenade from 7pm to midnight. The vibrant stalls will for sure catch your attention and it’s a great way to entertain your children during a pleasant walk.

This café is probably the one you must head to in the morning if you feel like going back to the 60’s. Its eclectic decoration is Instagram worthy and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Food quality is first-rate and the service is high standard. This restaurant is right on the sea front just beside the night market stalls so you get to see the calm morning sea. They serve Italian, Mediterranean, European and Spanish food with Vegan and Gluten Free options. Try their tasty croquettes and tapas.

La Cava
A cozy and cheerful restaurant with manually recycled materials located on the promenade with a beautiful view of the sea. It is owned and run by Manuel and Alba Ramos, 2 siblings who continue what their parents has started back in the 60’s. This restaurant used to be “Frankfurt La Cava” making it a real paradise to the huge number of German tourists going to Formentera.
La Cava also serve Mediterranean, Seafood and Spanish food. If you are craving for paella, this is the place to go. Try their paella de pescado and other food like red shrimp carpaccio and grilled octopus. For deserts go for the pudding and chocolate ice cream.

Claro Formentera
A well decorated restaurant that serves fresh ingredients with delicious healthy food and fresh juices like ginger, apple and carrot. Try their Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and nuts, pomodoro e mozzarella piadine for lunch and chocolate cake for desert. The restaurant has good reviews when it comes to cleanliness and good food presentation as well the welcoming staff.

What about drinks, shops and hotels?
Five Flowers Hotel & Spa Formentera is the first and only 5-star hotel in the island. It has its own on-site restaurant, a rooftop bar that’s overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and an outdoor rooftop swimming pool. A night of stay here cost around 400-500 euro.
As mentioned on the things to do above, Es Pujols has a night hippie market on the promenade where local artists show their handmade jewelry, ceramics, handbags, hats, sandals and clothing. It is open from 7pm until midnight. Show some support to these local artists by buying some of their products.
For drinks, there is a wide choice of bars in Formentera where you can drink and listen to music at the same time. Ugly cocktails, 55 Milano Formentera, Pachanka, Alma Formentera, Luz Formentera, Amore Io Dio, Vaca Medio Loca, Aldilàdelvino, 54 Formentera are all in Es Pujols.
Tips:
During the peak of the summer, it may feel like you are in one of the beaches in Italy instead of the Balearic Island due to the huge amount of Italians that goes to this beach. Go ahead and make new friends with people who has the same interest as you. Good luck!
