Did you know?

At the end of the beach is the Torre des Carregador also known as the Torre de la Sal Rosa -the pink salt tower. It’s one of the oldest towers on the island, and it was a defense tower built in the 16th century to protect and defend the salt loaders who worked in the salt flats, a constant target of corsairs. At that time, the salt was an import export product. It can give shelter to between 150 and 200 people. It is the only tower with a cupboard and a fireplace. When the fire was turned on, the salt workers ran to take refuge, because it meant that they were approaching a schooner of Turkish or Berber pirates.
From July to October, you can visit the Torre des Carregador which was restored in 2008. From the lookout tower, you can catch a magnificent panoramic view of the islets, overlooking Formentera, Platja d’en Bossa, and the rear of Dalt Vila Castle.
In addition, you can visit the Ses Salines Natural Park; if you like trekking, there is a 5 kilometers route from the Torre des Carregador to there. In the Interpretation Centre of the Ses Salines Natural Park, you can learn about the history of the salt flats and also discover flora and fauna of the reserve.
